What are your general policies? New
Minimums: New 30 minutes for in-person sessions and 15 minutes for phone sessions. Exceptions are made for pickups & drop-offs of equipment + antivirus renewals (can be as little as 5mins).
Cancellations: New 12 hours' notice is required. With less notice, we log the minimum time (plus any incurred travel).
Payment: For established clients, we keep a running tab; newer clients may be asked to pay at the end of a session. Clients commonly pay by check, Venmo, Zelle, or credit card (3% fee).
Backups: Before any work on your system, please ensure your important data is backed up. If you'd like help with that, we can make it the first priority.
Privacy: We view, copy or share your data only as needed to solve your problem, safeguard any passwords we keep for you, and share your personal information with third parties only with your permission. Everyone who works with us signs a confidentiality agreement.
Product Warranty Policy:
  • New Parts From Us: Within 30 days of sale, we'll handle returns free of charge. After 30 days, we can usually provide purchase information that would allow you to pursue repair or replacement under warranty with manufacturer OR you can pay us at normal rates to handle the warranty process for you. Sometimes, as a courtesy, it's possible for us to give a loaner part until the original part is replaced.
  • Used Parts From Us: We customarily provide a 30, 90 or 365-day warranty of our own on used parts or systems that we refurbish & sell. Some warranties can be extended to a longer term for a little more money (usually 10-15% of the product cost). Within the warranty period, if such hardware is found to be defective, it would be replaced, repaired or refunded. Exceptions to this would be if the defect was due to mishandling or accident.
  • Software: Because there are so many ways that software can become corrupt, we cannot warranty the function of software. We can however, warranty the validity of software licenses we sell.
What does working together look like?
Commonly, jobs span a few shorter sessions, whether we’re waiting for a longer process, a part to arrive, or you need some time after an adjustment to see what needs more attention.

During a session, while waiting for something to complete, we’re happy to look at other devices or answer questions.

Depending on your capabilities and inclination, we can guide you to handle some steps yourself.

Time between sessions is valuable, allowing some or all of the following:
  1. Computer & logistical processes can run their course.
  2. You or we can handle matters such as research, corresponding with a 3rd party or ordering parts.
  3. You can acquaint yourself with any adjustments made to your system.
  4. You can discover and document fresh concerns that become apparent.
    • If problems arise after a session with us, that usually just means more work, billed at normal rates, is necessary. Exceptions to this include:
      A) if we make an error or misjudgment, at our discretion, we will correct the problem for free.
      B) if while on-site, we overlook a key step, we'll waive the travel fee to return to finish.
  5. You can fine-tune your strategy for further tech work.
  6. We can schedule the next session.
What is your standard billing rate?
Our standard rate is $144/hr, billed in 5-minute increments.

For well-defined projects, flat-rate quotes may be available following an initial assessment.

Evening, weekend, or priority work is typically 25-50% higher. Travel charges vary by zip code.
How are short consultations billed?
When you reach out for guidance by phone, text, or email, exchanges lasting 1 minute or more are billable, with no minimum.

For established clients, we keep a running tab, usually invoiced when a larger project comes along, when it exceeds $50, or at year-end.
How are travel costs calculated?
Travel costs depend on your zip code.

For example, 02906 = $15, and East Greenwich = $90.

See Travel for your zip code.
Do you offer flat-rate work?
Some work is offered at our office for a flat rate. Generating a quote requires assessing your needs and strategizing together. This effort is generally billed at normal rates.

Quotes given are limited in scope & don’t cover attention to other topics. A couple minutes time, at pickup and dropoff, specific to the procedure, is included in the flat rate cost.

We offer a guarantee on flat rate work, for you to see the job was completed successfully. If you bring an issue to our attention within 25 days, and we determine that there are defects in our work or in the parts we supply, we will resolve that free of charge.

Exceptions are:
  • Virus disinfections get a 5-day guarantee that the virus doesn’t recur (since some people’s habits lead them to reinfect themselves)
  • If after a disinfection, we find your OS is corrupted or your data is still locked up by ransomware, the work to address that would be at standard rates
New parts often come with a 3-12 month warranty. Most used parts have no warranty. If a warranty replacement becomes needed 30 or more days after repair, any Tech Medic assessment or labor would be billable.

After receiving a quote, if you want to move forward, we’d take a 50% deposit via:
  • Venmo to @techmedicllc (last 4 phone digits: 2559).
  • Credit card over the phone (incurring a 3% surcharge to cover our fees).
  • If you want to come with cash that can be arranged.
How can I pay?
We accept Venmo (@techmedicllc, last 4 phone digits: 2559), Zelle, CashApp, check, cash and credit cards. Cards carry a 3% surcharge to cover our fees. If you pay in cash, feel free to ask for a 5% discount.

Checks go to 355 Hope St, FL 2, Unit 5, Providence, RI 02906; a returned check costs $15 plus any fees our bank charges us.

For established clients we keep a running tab, usually invoiced when a larger project comes along, when it passes $50, or at year-end; newer clients may be asked to pay at the end of a session.
Do you accept walk-ins without an appointment?
No, unfortunately, we can’t accept walk-ins since it’s common we’re in the middle of helping other clients. All help is by appointment only.

Please visit our Booking page to schedule an appointment.
Do you repair mobile devices?
Yes, we resolve software issues on smartphones & tablets. However, we do not perform hardware repairs for mobile devices.

For iPhone battery replacements, we recommend visiting Apple. For other repairs, you can try WeFixIt on Wickenden.
Do you offer web design or programming services?
While we do not directly offer web design or programming services, we suggest Karen Ryder.

If you need additional guidance for your particular project, feel free to book a session to discuss your options here.
Is there a warranty on your service?
If, after some recent work with us, a problem arises that you really think we should have avoided, let us know. To know why something happened isn’t always straightforward. If we determine that:
  • an error, oversight or misjudgment on our part could have been realistically avoided
  • AND it is realistically-likely that our mistake led to a malfunction, setback or harm to you…
We will do additional work to “make it right” to the best of our ability. The work to resolve that issue and any necessary travel would be free of charge. There are situations where our responsibility for causing harm is less-certain. In those instances, we may share the burden of making things right by doing additional work at a discounted rate.
Do you repair game consoles?
Sorry, no, we do not repair game consoles. We recommend reaching out to a specialist for console repairs.
Who do you recommend for graphic design & printing services?
We recommend: If you need additional guidance for your particular project, feel free to book a session to discuss your options here.
